We are Northern Lights, a mixed A Cappella group from Durham University, in our 13th year as a group! We perform at local events in and around Durham, show runs at Durham and Edinburgh Fringe, and headline events like Music Durham's 'A Cappella at the Gala'.

As current National Champions, we've had an outstanding run in recent years: winning the Open A cappella Competition twice (2023 & 2025) and securing First Place in the UK round of the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCAs) three years in a row (2023, 2024 & 2025) - The very competition that inspired the Pitch Perfect films! These victories made us 5-Time National Champions, and took us to New York City to perform on a Broadway stage, representing the UK in the international finals. In 2025, we were honoured to receive 3rd place internationally, making history as the first mixed UK group to place at the finals.

But Northern Lights is more than its trophies. We've performed at the O2, sold out shows at Durham and Edinburgh Fringe, released music videos and a full Album! We have been featured in a Vocal Room episode produced by the AC Product, which has amassed 17 thousand views and counting. We have also just released a professional video of our 2025 competition set, linked below, with the songs available on all music streaming platforms . We are so excited to see what this year of Northern Lights has to come!

In June 2023, we released our album 'Meet Me In The Sky' on all streaming platforms, followed closely by the video release of our ICCA Set on YouTube, which now has over 12 thousand views.
In our 10th generation we also won the​ Open A Cappella competition, and we were honoured to receive 2 CARA (Contemporary A Cappella Recording) award nominations for our debut album, as-well as taking home an A Cappella Video Award for 'Outstanding Video Editing' for our ICCA Set 2023, thanks to the AC Product. Other accolades for this recorded music include our song 'Feelings' being featured on the Best Of Collegiate A Cappella compilation and our song '365' on the Voices Only.

For the release of our 2024 ICCA set video and EP, we are so proud to announce that we are nominated for 2 A Cappella Video Awards; for 'Outstanding Video Editing' and 'Outstanding Competition/Festival Set'. Our final song on the EP, 'Do Your Thing' has also been featured on the Voices Only 2025.

Northern Lights is formed with the stated intention of being a close and supportive environment, and pride ourselves on our ethos 'One entity, One voice'. Although we are all driven members who constantly wish to improve the quality of our sound and performance, we are also a tight-knit group of friends who just love performing together. The fact that we have all developed such close friendships through A Cappella allows us to perform to a higher standard and this is something we are immensely proud of.

As a group, we also get invited to perform at all kinds of events, from weddings and corporate functions to balls where our average audience is 200-300 people.
